Yesterday I started on a model boat kit. It took me 4 hours just to clear the workbench in the garage and gather all the Stitch I Know I Have Diabetes Just Give Me The Darn Cupcake Shirt tools listed on the first page. I managed to do the rough framing and now I’m at the “waiting for more parts to arrive” stage. It will probably never be completed, I wish I had the time these people seem to have. I took home ec in middle school and we had to do this cross stitch thing with like 1000 little x’s to make something.. about 5 minutes into it I was like.. why use many little x’s when few big do trick?

I consider myself to be quite the amateur doodler but once you get into shading and color variation/changes that Stitch I Know I Have Diabetes Just Give Me The Darn Cupcake Shirt shit gets so hard. I can’t imagine doing it with thread. Use shorter strands and non-shitty thread (most thread is fine, just that sometimes you come across the really crappy stuff that frays instantly and breaks). Also, take the time to “unwind” the working thread periodically. Just let the needle hang and spin around, unwinding. This really helps me. But the video went too fast for me to figure out how those particular lines were determined. Honestly very impressed and curious.

It might just be one of those things where experienced people used nicer materials that make it easier, perhaps the Stitch I Know I Have Diabetes Just Give Me The Darn Cupcake Shirt thread is smoother and slides nicer, and the thread I use to repair the crotch on my jeans is bargain-basement $.02 per spindle thread. The technique, sure, but I’d still say photorealism is accurate. I imagine thread painting could be used for other painting styles. This just happens to be as realistic as a photo. So both. Photorealistic thread painting. You know photo-realism means it’s as realistic as a photograph, right? The “photo” part doesn’t refer to the medium actually used.
